    CITY OFFICER DIES WEDNESDAY
    FUNERAL SERVICES FOR WASHINGTON LAFAYETTE SANDERS, RETIRED SAYRE PEACE OFFICER, WHO DIED WEDNESDAY MORNING FOLLOWING A THREE-WEEK ILLNESS, WERE HELD FROM THE BAPTIST CHURCH THURSDAY WITH REV. V.A. JONES OFFICIATING.
    MR. SANDERS WAS BORN MARCH 8, 1872 AT COLLINS COUNTY, TEXAS. HE WAS MARRIED TO MISS NETTIE CUMMINS IN COLLINS COUNTY FEBRUARY 25, 1896.THEY CAME TO SAYRE IN 1919 WHERE THEY HAVE RESIDED SINCE THAT TIME. HE WAS NIGHT CHIEF OF POLICE FOR TWO YEARS PRIOR TO BECOMING ILL TEN MONTHS AGO.

    HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH.
    ONE SON PRECEDED HIM DEATH. SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS WIFE, OF THE HOME ADDRESS, TWO DAUGHTERS, MRS. BESSIE CUMMINGS OF SAYRE AND MRS. MINNIE CULP OF OKLAHOMA CITY; THREE SONS, BILL SANDERS OF DEXTER, N.M., ED AND ALBERT OF SAYRE; TWO BROTHERS, JOHN OF OKEMAH AND TOMMIE OF WHITE DEER, TEXAS, ONE SISTER, MRS. DAVENPORT OF OKEMAH; TWENTY-EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN AND EIGHT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.COMMITTAL WAS IN THE SAYRE-DOXEY CEMETERY WITH MOORE FUNERAL HOME IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.

    RUMOR HAS IT THAT HIS DADDY GAVE HIM SOME BLACKBOTTOM FARM LAND IN COLLIN COUNTY TEXAS (CHICKASAW STRIP)WHERE FATE AND NETTIE LIVED FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND NETTIE NOT LIKING IT TALKED FATE INTO SELLING AND THEY MOVED TO TULSA ( MAYBE SUPULPA) WHERE THEY LIVED IN A HOTEL UNTIL THE MONEY RAN OUT.
    FATE WORKED AS A NIGHT WATCHMAN FOR THE CITY OF SAYRE FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS BEFORE HE BECAME ILL.
    FATE SOMETIMES TOLD OF NETTIE RIDING A HORSE BAREBACK WITH HER LONG BLACK HAIR FLYING LIKE THE INDIAN SHE WAS.
